MAGICAL AWAKENING | Lone Star, Pilot Point, Texas | June 27, 2017. I woke up at 4am and couldn't go back to sleep.
I went outside the cabin for a stroll at 6am and took a few selfies.
Imagining the special reunion with Gary Ferguson to take place later in the day (backyard patio, planned film location).
I felt the gentle winds and I heard the birds sing. Then I saw a rabbit moving in the middle of a grass field.
It gestured like it was telling me something, then it turned its head and pointed me to a trail.
Suddenly in the middle of the wood, I felt like going back in time.
Then I heard the cranking sounds of a boat engine
which led me to the water
and a boat dock.
The water smells familiar.
Wow, so is the mud and the trees reminded me of Pulau Buton refugee camp in Indonesia, 1979.
And this must be that monkey bridge, where I first saw Gary.
And this is the spot where he fell to the muddy water, facing the refugees waiting for his arrival at the base of the bridge.
I shared these video clips with Director Gary Johnstone. He quickly ordered a “COP” ...
“Change of Plan” — he explained to me. We had only about half an hour to move all equipment to the lakeside.
Coincidentally, the final reunion location is very Buton-like setting …
… just like the remote island where we first met in Indonesia in 1979.
We met again in a small trail in the wood
adjacent to a beach with a boat dock.
I can’t explain how some of these unpredictable events all came together.
It’s magical, just like a miracle.
It was one of the best days of my life.
This selfie made the day more special and memorable. Thanks Ann and thank you Blink Films team.
My homemade life book for Gary.
Finally Whataburger breakfast for Tommy (limo driver stopped at Denton on way to Dallas Fort Worth Airport)
Waiting at Dallas Fort Worth Airport
Security check.
Still feeling like I was on cloud nine, not sure why.
